Retirement Planner

http://cgi.money.cnn.com/tools/retirementplanner/retirementplanner.jsp

I stumbled upon this retirement planner in CNNmoney where you list down your current salary and investments plan, your age, the age you want to retire, and the desired annual income after retirement. I typed down a conservative figure, and the age I want to retire (50), and after the software factored in inflation and all that… the chances of me retiring is …. 2%!!!!

WAPAIYA!

I didn’t even factor in a spouse or kids and holidays and expenses I would incur. Like buying a house and adult stuff like that. Even if I sell barbeque and lemonade outside our nice new office before and after work hours, and accept labada on weekends, I still won’t be able to make it. Apparently my measly money is not making money. Can somebody explain this ETF and mutual funds and money market and index and bonds and whathaveyous. I need financial advice. Desperately! Help!

    Hi carol!

hope you are well and good.

actually, putting your money in stocks / mutual funds / t-bills, etc can partially help but it will not be towards retirement. These are investment instruments you put your personal money and yield a measly interest income over time. Risk is also calculated.
If there is enough funds, people also invest in properties and businesses to augment earnings.

here in europe, the OFWs are waiting for their retirement age to security pensions and insurance so everything is well settled.

    take care
